The Designers

Hare + Klein is a leading Australian interior design studio led by Meryl Hare, started in 1989. She is a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia, has received a citation for services to the design industry, was inducted to the DIA Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Australian House & Garden Hall of Fame in 2018.

Hare + Klein balance aesthetics with layers of visual generosity. Woven into their work is texture, warmth, refined comfort and a sense of their client’s personality.

Hare + Klein have released three successful handknot rug collections with Designer Rugs. Their rugs employ hemp, silk and other materials to create a layered, textured feel, and use a traditional abrash technique, which hand dyes Tibetan wool in small vats to create interesting and unique colour variations. The result is an artisanal effect where varying autumnal shades feature intimate, complex characteristics. The subtlety of the designs are their strength, with textures and colours used are more reminiscent of abstract paintings on canvas, crafted by hand from silk, hemp and wool in place of oil paint and raw canvas.
