Some partnerships produce beautiful objects. Others create entire worlds. The ongoing collaboration between Designer Rugs and Jordan Gogos belongs firmly to the latter.
For his first institutional solo exhibition, Parádeisos, currently showing at UNSW Galleries, Designer Rugs has produced a suite of custom digitally printed rugs in collaboration with Gogos. The collection transforms the gallery floor into a space that is tender, vivid, and unmistakably his own.
Designer Rugs worked closely with Gogos to bring a deeply personal vision to life in a way that is entirely new for the brand. For the first time, Designer Rugs employed digital printing technology, a significant departure from its celebrated handmade collections, made necessary by the extraordinary intricacy of Gogos’s imagination.
Every delicate line and layered note of colour demanded a level of precision that only this innovative process could achieve. Gogos drew from a treasured archive of early childhood writings, raw notes, and drawings, scaling them up into bespoke floor coverings that function as foundational artworks.
Echoing the familiar form of children’s play mats, the rugs feel at once nostalgic and quietly profound, anchoring the exhibition within its broader themes of memory, family, and domestic life.
Each rug carries the full richness of Gogos’s vision, inviting visitors to step directly into the artist’s creative universe.
The Parádeisos rugs continue a partnership that began at Australian Fashion Week 2024, where Designer Rugs and Gogos presented The Interwoven Trojan, a landmark collection featuring runway runners, towering Trojan Horse tapestries, and a wearable rug dress that dissolved the line between art, fashion, and interior design.
Designer Rugs aligns itself with creators who reshape the boundaries of their fields, and Jordan Gogos is a luminous example. An Eora-based Greek Australian artist and Powerhouse Museum creative resident, his practice spans object design, fashion, and textile art.
