From 11–13 June at ICC Sydney, the design community gathered to celebrate innovation and the connections that make this industry so extraordinary. For Designer Rugs, this year’s event carried special significance, not only as an opportunity to unveil new work, but also as a moment to mark 40 years of designing luxury underfoot.
Stand 2138 was alive with energy throughout the three-day show. Designers, architects, specifiers, and both new and longstanding clients moved through the space, pausing to touch, consider, and discuss the collections, and of course, leaving with a highly anticipated Designer Rugs tote bag in hand.
At the heart of the stand, a large custom AVERY rug hung prominently on the wall. Part of our Alchemy collection, AVERY reflects elegant, organic forms, rendered through meticulous hand tufting. It undoubtedly commanded attention, inviting visitors to engage with its distinctive textures firsthand. That direct, sensory experience is something no digital catalogue can replicate, and it was rewarding to see how strongly visitors responded to the piece up close.
Complementing AVERY was the newly introduced GRAPPA axminster carpet by House of Heras, a design that drew considerable attention throughout the show. The carpet represents the precision and ambition that define our commercial offering, with intricate patterning and robust construction ideally suited to high-end hospitality and commercial environments. For many guests, it was their first opportunity to experience the design at scale, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
This year's Design Show held a particular resonance for our team, as 2026 marks Designer Rugs' 40th anniversary. A timeline display at the stand traced four decades of creativity and collaboration, from our origins as a family studio in Sydney to our presence in some of the world's most prestigious interiors.
The timeline sparked conversations from longstanding clients, who reflected on projects they had been part of over the years and younger designers who were discovering a lineage for the first time.
