Isabella Wong, Lidcombe TAFE Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration student, has won ‘Floored 2009'.
Floored 2009 generated over 300 rug designs entered by students across three TAFE NSW Design Colleges; Lidcombe Design, Enmore Design Centre and Nepean Design and Arts Centre.
The students were challenged to design a two-by-three-metre (2 x 3m) rug for use in a residential, hospitality, retail or corporate environment.
South Western Sydney Institute Director, Phil Cox said "we are extremely proud and honoured to have had such a remarkable result and to once again have one of our students win the competition"
"This is recognition of not only the talent of our students but also the high standards set by the Institute and the quality and skill of our Design teachers".
The competition was judged by five Industry experts. On the night, Yosi Tal, Director of Designer Rugs Australia and Greg Natale, of Greg Natale Designs, announced Isabella the winner with her ‘Archaic' rug design.
The finalists, Monica Kim, Guilia Mardaga, Chris Ramsey and Michaela Stogden, received prize money from Designer Rugs and Isabella will now receive her rug, valued at $2,400, as her prize.
Isabella Wong's design ‘Archaic' aimed to reproduce the glorious colour palette of the Australian Landscape into an abstract geometric artwork.
All finalists designs are available for purchase through Designer Rugs.
